5 Months

You both have been battling a cold for well over a week now.  Your messy coughs and noisy breathing had me concerned so we took you to the doctor on Friday.  After weighing in at whopping 16 pounds 2 ounces (Alex) and 14 pounds 13 ounces (Will) we learned that you had ear infections.  I find it incredibly charming that you both are smiling and babbling away even though you should be miserable.  The nose clogging snot, body shaking coughs and overall discomfort of an ear infection (two for poor Alex) create plenty of tears and moments of agitation, but we are all doing the best we can to get through things.  One of these days we will all be able to sleep through the night again...

In other news, you are definitely aware of each other now.  You strike up a lively conversation whenever you are near each other.  I love to read you books when you are cuddled up together in the crib, mostly because you both look equally fascinated when I show you the pictures.  The expression on your faces when you recognize a familiar voice or face is priceless and you both are constantly finding new ways to make us smile, love and laugh.

William...

Your little hands have been busy grabbing everything around you.  Rattles, your bib, blankets-they are all rounded up and herded towards your mouth.  During nap time the other day you had your blanket in your fists and were peeking under the covers while your brother dozed away.

Some old habits that have resurfaced lately include peeing on me, waking up several times a night and crying during the first part of your bath.  Your "big boy" status went through the roof this morning when you had a chance to test out the walker that will be part of your crash derby future.

Alexander...

Over the past few weeks you have managed to wiggle yourself into some crazy positions in your crib.  Your latest and greatest include a 180 degree move (while swaddled) and sleeping on your side (also while swaddled, most likely a failed rollover).

Those little hands of yours are always in your mouth.  Your thumb is especially chewy and it isn't uncommon for you to try and squeeze both fists into your mouth at the same time.  When you are not busy eating your hands, you grab mine and are mesmerized by my wiggling fingers...

We can't believe it has already been five months since you both wiggled into our world.  Every new moment is a wonder and our hearts are forever full.

Dear Sophie...

I'm really glad that you're a giraffe because your long neck is easy to squeeze. Your face is also fun to chew on and your squeaky sound makes me giggle. How does my mom make you do that? Thanks for being my buddy.
                                                                                                                     xoxo,

101.6

Will and Alex managed to make fast friends with a cold bug this week.  Their steady decline really picked up speed Wednesday night when they decided to wake up every hour on the hour after midnight.  By Thursday evening, Alex was running a temperature of 101.6 degrees.  We propped up crib mattresses, refilled the humidifier and battened down the hatches.

After a few steamy nights of rolling around their cribs like bowling pins, they have managed to make a little bit of progress.  There are still plenty of tears, coughing and snot bubbles but overall, they are smiling more and crying less.  I am looking forward to kicking this bug to the curb (they shared it with me too) so that we can start making more memories and less laundry.

Don't let these pictures fool you, they are only napping for ten minutes at the most right now and rarely at the same time.  For those of you that are keeping track, Will is wearing frogs and Alex is wearing dogs...

Peekaboo

I see you!

Alex rarely snuggles or sits still, so seeing this made my heart smile.

Still Growing

-William-
24 inches long
14 pounds 6 ounces

-Alexander-
25 inches long
15 pounds 2 ounces

The boys enjoyed another round of shots at the doctor's office yesterday.  They are still growing like crazy and they passed their 20 point inspection with flying colors.  Technically, these critters are 11 weeks old (adjusted age).  The doctor reminded us that we should use their adjusted age when looking ahead at milestones.  Honestly, everything that these two do is amazing to me so we haven't spent too much time worrying about when they will crawl, walk or talk.  I am more worried about when they start driving...
